I have been a Mazda MX-5 (also known as the Miata) owner for quite some time now. I don’t remember exactly when I bought it, but it was probably about a year ago. It has been sitting for a bit, with no love, but that is about to change.

Well, sort of….

I have a bad habit of getting involved in too many hobbies. Right now, the ones on the top of my list are cycling (mountain biking and road cycling), motorcycle riding (in the dirt, for now, hoping to get into some super motard riding in the future), wakeboarding (and when the winter comes, snowboarding), and finally, car racing. I’d say that is listed in order of importance to me and priority based on time.

The one thing that all of those hobbies have in common, is that they are all involved in racing (well except for wakeboarding).

Somewhere along the way, I became really enthralled with racing. It doesn’t matter what medium is being used, just as long as it is racing. I may not always be good, but it is always fun. I think it basically boils down to seeing just what I am capable of. Seeing how fast I can improve my lap times, or if I can finally beat the guy who has been winning all of the local races.

So, back to the car…

I am going to start working on it a bit more. In the very near future, I am planning on getting a 6 point roll bar installed. This will open up a lot of possibilities for me. I will finally be able to get out to a real track, such as Buttonwillow. I also brought up all of my other hobbies because writing random stuff online helps me to organize my thoughts (and remember them when they are good ideas). I never worked on my car much because, previously, I had more time to drive and enjoy the car as is. Now that I have picked up a few more hobbies, I don’t have quite as much time to drive the car, so I wont feel bad if I rip out the interior to work on something and it sits, incomplete, for a few weeks.

So, let the build-out begin.
